Breath-taking scenes akin to images from the National Geographic aside, we were bewildered by the scale of the organic farms. They were meticulously planned using a biodynamic approach. From sourcing, planting to harvesting, it was evident that each step of the processes from the beginning till the end was socially, ethically and environmentally thought through. What kind of gloves should the farmers use to protect their hands? And that the gloves would not contaminate the calendulas or cause pollution to the environment? Or that machines should not be used for harvesting? Lest they would cause more damage to the plants through the physical trauma of dragging the flowers off the stalks?
